OUR AIM IS TO PROMOTE INTEREST IN THE HISTORY OF RHOOSE

Rhoose (Y Rhws) is a Welsh village situated on the north coast of the Bristol Channel about 12 miles south west of Cardiff in The Vale of Glamorgan.  The village was originally formed around the two farmsteads of Rhoose farm and Lower farm, which still exist, around 300 years ago. During the 20th century the village gradually expanded to envelop the nearby village of Fontygary. Cardiff International airport, originally built as RAF Rhoose during the second world war, lies to the north west of the village. To the south of the village there are a number of disused limestone quarries which were used in cement manufacture. These industrial areas have now been cleared and redeveloped for housing and a nature reserve. Limestone cliffs line the coast offering stunning views of North Devon which lies about 12 miles across the water.
